QOTW: Metal Gear Solid 3

Hi y’all! Back again for some Quote of the Week! Much apologies about the previous week for not having its serving of weekly videogame quotes. In lieu of said event, there will be two selection of delectable quotes this week.

First up, Metal Gear Solid 3!

For those of you folks who haven’t snagged a copy of Metal Gear Solid 3, I suggest you do so now because it is one of the videogames that consummated the PlayStation 2, Xbox, and GameCube era.

1.  Kuwabara, Kuwabara – There was just something about Volgin that had me in a curl, laughing uncontrollably–maybe it’s his voice or his cliché stance as the imminent villain, nevertheless, here are his words at its finest.

The scene commences with Colonel Volgin as lightning runs amok all over his body.

Colonel Volgin: Kuwabara, Kuwabara.
Colonel Volgin: Ah, what a joyful scene.
The Boss: Colonel Volgin…
Colonel Volgin: Welcome to my country, and to my unit.

I almost tossed my cookies out from giggling when Volgin lowly kept breathing the words “Kuwabara” because it reminded me of Yu-Yu Hakusho’s Kuwabara and his fiery-orange hair-do.

2. What’s your name? – A very touching yet funny moment in the game. It highlights one of the underlying themes in Metal Gear Solid 3, that everyone is just a soldier playing his or her role.

Ocelot: What’s your name?
Naked Snake: Snake.
Ocelot : No, not that name. You’re not a snake, and I’m not an ocelot. We’re men with names. My name… is Adamska. And you?
Naked Snake: John.
Ocelot:  Plain name. But I won’t forget it.

3. Boss - There are just too many memorable quotes from the Boss. Here is a compilation of the ones that had me sniffling and salutatory raising my right hand to my forehead.

  • “Look at this scar. This is proof that I was once a mother. I gave up my body and my child for my country. There is nothing left inside me now. Nothing at all. No hatred, not even regret. And yet sometimes at night I can still feel the pain creeping up inside me. Slithering through my body, like a snake. ”
  • “Sooner or later, your conscience is going to bother you. In the end, you have to choose whether you’re going to live as a soldier, or just another man with a gun.”
  • “What about you, Jack? What’s it going to be? Loyalty to your country, or loyalty to me? Your country, or your old mentor? The mission, or your beliefs? Your duty to your unit, or your personal feelings? You don’t know the truth yet. But sooner or later you’ll have to choose.”
  • “I raised you, and loved you, I’ve given you weapons, taught you techniques, endowed you with knowledge. There’s nothing more for me to give you. All that’s left for you to take is my life.”

4. Patriot – Eva rambles on in the end, summarizing the events sagaciously. But her definitive one-liner really did a number on me.

“Snake, listen to me. She didn’t betray the United States. No, far from it. She was a hero who died for her country. She carried out her mission knowing full well what was going to happen. Self-sacrifice… because that was her duty.”

Another round of quotes will be up tomorrow! Till then, stay classy!
