Opinion: Mass Effect 3 Demo’s 2D Sprites
Yes yes, say it all you want “it’s just a demo”, “it’ll be fixed in the retail release”, and anything else that might defend this. It might just be a demo, but a demo, at least back when they came in discs with other games or with magazines, were a taste of what’s to come. A small bit of insight to get you excited for the big release of a title you might have been waiting on for such a long time.
It might not have any major impact on the main game itself, most people might not even notice it. It’s there though, and as you can clearly see in the video, no attempt has been made to even disguise the fact that those are 2D sprites.
If there was maybe something that might have made me excited for Mass Effect 3, it’s all gone now because of small things like its lack of walking animation, stupid difficulty modes and now finally the sheer lack of effort put into making the game shine. Even if it’s just a demo, it should still be as good as the final release just in a very confined section of the game, in order to get you to feel the full immersion, then leave you wanting more.
Some developers and publishers have really lost their way. I might just be bitter because of the current generation of gamers, but who wouldn’t be after Black Ops apparently having the best video game ending of all time, iterations of Mario games losing their challenge, and who can forget poor Sonic.
Now, don’t mind me, I’ll be sipping brandy and reminiscing about times gone by.
