OnLive says goodbye

Update: It has since transpired that OnLive will continue to operate via the Desktop and OnLive Game services. They have been acquired by another company which will enable them to continue operations.

The company who bought OnLive has not been mentioned whilst the rumour that 50% of staff have lost their jobs also goes without comment. The OnLive service are believed to go unaffected however.

Whoever said that OnLive and Cloud game services would be the future can eat a massive slice of humble pie as the service has closed its doors after a mere few months on the market.

Reports emerged earlier saying that the company would be closing and since then many updates have confirmed that the workforce behind the service have been laid off.

It is believed that a new company will be formed after the dust has settled whilst the management of the company will also be changing hands. The OnLive service will cease to exist as it currently stands and nobody will be employed under the OnLive umbrella.

It would appear that the service launched way ahead of its time and there just isn’t enough demand for the service with the UK’s infrastructure not being able to handle the required speeds to utilise it.

Our sympathy’s go out to all the staff affected.
