New PS3 plans Submitted? (Give us the PS4 already!)

It seems that earlier rumours of a slimmer PS3 may be coming true with Sony seemingly submitting some documents to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC).

Sony supplied a sample of a “Computer Entertainment System” model number CECH-4001x, an upgrade from the current 3000 series to the FCC for testing on March 9, 2012.

The already labelled ‘Slim console’ was released in 2009 but it seems that Sony still believe that there is a high enough demand for their consoles should they release a newer version.

So could the planned new console (pictured right) be popular with Sony users or is this just another way of milking some more money out of consumers?
