Microsoft E3 Wish List 2012

E3 is right around the corner and with no Xbox 360 (controller based) exclusive besides Halo 4 announced thus far, this can only mean two things: Microsoft has no other (controller based) Xbox 360 exclusives coming out this year, therefore they are banking on Halo 4 to cover their fall/winter sales like Gears successfully did last year. This resulted in more Kinect at E3 last year. Perhaps they are keeping quiet on their exclusives unlike Sony and planning on surprising the world at E3.
Last year’s E3 press conference for Microsoft was probably the worst one they’ve ever had. The conference was filled with Kinect games, 3rd party games, new media content headed to the console and more Kinect games. Don’t get me wrong there’s nothing wrong with 3rd party games or new media content headed to the console, as a matter of fact that’s great; I recently downloaded the new IGN app to help me get some Witcher 2 achievements. The problem with last year’s conference was the lack of 360 (controller based) exclusives. Sure Forza, Gears, and Halo made it to the conference but that was disappointingly it.
With that said, here is a wish list for this year’s Microsoft E3 press conference:
- More Xbox 360 (controller based) exclusives.
The main reason people bought an Xbox 360 during its first 4 years were because of its games. Not Kinect or social media content. Sure they’re both great, fun, and have limitless potential but that should not be Microsoft’s main focus. Nor is it what the core gamers are asking for.
Lost Odyssey 2
Alan Wake 2
Banjo-Kazooie 2
Left 4 Dead 3
- New IP’s
New IP’s have paid off well for Sony this generation, Little Big Planet, Infamous, Heavy Rain just to name a couple. Microsoft has had some new IP”s as well like Crackdown, Too Human, and Alan Wake. As of late it seems that Microsoft only has faith in Gears out of all their new IPs this generation. Please Microsoft stop investing all your money on Kinect and invest in new (controller based) IP’s !
- Twisted Pixel Games Announces a New Game (not a Kinect or arcade game)
Microsoft hit the jackpot when they acquired Twisted Pixel Games to their First Party development team last year. There’s only one way Microsoft can mess that up and that’s by making Twisted Pixel Games focus on Kinect games rather than Xbox 360 (controller based) games. I’m sure a Kinect game from Twisted Pixel Games would be fun just like The Gunstringer but now more than ever Microsoft could really use a new (controller based exclusive) that is not a shooter. Perhaps Twisted Pixel Games could show what their next title is at E3. (Fingers crossed for an action platformer).
- Kinect for the Hardcore
Microsoft recently started taking steps in the right direction with making Kinect cater to a more mature audience. Having Kinect functionality in Mass Effect 3, Skyrim, and the recently released Ghost Recon: Future Soldier. Crytek is also working on a hardcore Kinect game titled Ryse. Hopefully at E3 we see Ryse in action and some more Kinect games intended for the hardcore.
- Make Kinect Interesting
Microsoft’s last two E3 Press Conferences have mainly been based around Kinect. I don’t have a problem with Kinect, in fact I have Kinect. What I do have a problem with is one whole hour of Microsoft’s press conference being about Kinect games where you pet baby tigers, travel through the world of Disney, and dance. In 2009 Microsoft showed us a very impressive video of Kinect’s potential with Milo. If you’re going to make this year’s E3 about Kinect again Microsoft, at least show us something we haven’t seen yet and please don’t make it too gimmicky.
- Give us the Internet.
Microsoft… you own Internet Explorer, enough said.
