Max Payne 3 Reviews roll in
Rockstar have lifted their embargo on reviews for their latest shooter, Max Payne 3. At the time of writing, the game held a score of 87% on Metacritic which was made up of three perfect scores.
GamesRadar had the following to say about the title in their 10 out of 10 review, “Max Payne 3 marks an exceptional comeback for the series. While prior games were certainly dark tales, the stories of addiction, double and triple crosses, as well as some grim surprises ripped straight from urban legends.
“It maintains the mechanics that made the prior games great while modernising them to excellent effect. Between the arcade mode and multiplayer, there’s enough substantive content to keep you hooked for some time.
“While there are some mechanically wonky moments, they’re too minuscule to tank a stellar sequel that was worth the wait. Between its pacing, its presentation, and its excellent gunplay, Max Payne 3 has raised the bar for other action games to follow.”
OPM UK awarded the title an 8 out of 10 concluding that it was, “A dark, cinematic single-player campaign lasting around ten hours coupled with a compelling multiplayer offering make this a worthy addition to the genre, even if it can’t quite compete in the very top tier. But for legacy’s sake, we hope that this time Max’s retirement is permanent.”
Edge Magazine were, however, less impressed with the title giving it a respectable 7 out of 10. With a score that is still something not to be sniffed at they stated, “This is a game about a world-weary killer doing the only thing he knows how to, and for all its spectacular action beats there’s something apt about Max’s fatigue.
Regardless of what the critics are saying about the title, will you still pick this up after such a long absence?
