Marvel Heroes MMO Supercharges into Existence
Following suit from a recent trend of free-to-play MMO’s, it seems a diamond has emerged from the sea of mediocrity.
From the creators of Diablo and announced at comic-con 2012, Marvel Heroes has my inner comic addict jumping for joy. The game is an action-RPG that will allow players to take control of some of their favourite Marvel characters in a massively multiplayer online world. The universe is true to that of Marvel – with access to iconic locations such as Xavier’s institute of learning and the Avengers tower.
The majority of the NPC’s within the game are famous Marvel characters and your own character will be totally customizable according to Marvel’s rich history of character designs and unique powers. The customization should tie in perfectly with the action-RPG style combat which is somewhat uncommon amongst MMO’s. The marvel heroes website even boasts an “endless variety of gear to increase your hero’s power.”
The cut-scenes are insanely well done 2D in a comic-book style, while every other inch of the game is looking fantastic. Gazillion Entertainment has created a totally beautiful game, announced to be ‘supercharged’ with the assistance of Epic Games‘ Unreal Engine. The engine will make Marvel Heroes the top of it’s class, which is only made more impressive by the absolutely amazing comic-style 2D cut-scenes. (You have to see them!) The studio’s Art Director, Josh Book said, “Unreal Lightmass is a very advanced global illumination tool that has helped push the look of our game further than we thought it could go.” It sounds as though Secret Identity Studios is proud of what they’ve got so far, and for totally good reason.
The story follows the malevolent Dr. Doom and his plan to change the world to suit himself, using the Cosmic Cube – an item of untold power. While previous wielders of the Cube have failed in utilising it correctly, Doom has and his villainous allies (including HYDRA, ugh!) have a vicious plan to stop super heroes from interfering. So far 20 characters have been announced but it seems as though many more are coming.
Who will you choose to defeat Doom and reclaim the Cosmic Cube in Marvel Heroes? I’ve got my eye on Cable…
