Borderlands is ’50-60% bigger’ than original

If you weren’t hyped enough about Borderlands 2 launching next month then get this new chunk of information down you and you’re sure to be even more excited. Gearbox VP, Steve Gibson, has announced that advances in technology since the first game have allowed them to increase the scale of their series.

Some of the cities included in the second title would not have been possible in the first game due to the technology being restrictive, but that is no longer a problem.

“I wouldn’t be surprised if it was about 50-60% bigger [than Borderlands 1],” he told Games Master.

“But it’s also so much denser. Heck, just the city of Sanctuary, something like that couldn’t exist in the first game. Our technology has evolved a lot to enable us to do that now.”

For those two or three people that did not play the original title, he also said that you would enjoy the second title just as much as those who did. You’d be insane not to play the original though, check out our article about it here.

“A decision that was made at the very beginning of the game was that at no point at any time could someone in the story or design team ever assume that some person has played Borderlands 1. You just start it from scratch.

“There are cute winks at different things. For example, we have this thing where if you played the first one we detect your saved game and you get some cool unlocks,” he said.

Sounds awesome, no?
