Assassin’s Creed 3 Is Already Getting DLC-Bombed

Yet another fan favourite has hopped on the DLC train, with Ubisoft kind of announcing a ‘season pass’ for Assassin’s Creed 3. The season pass essentially allows players to pay for upcoming DLC’s at discounted rates, which generally gives you access to all of them – before you even know they exist. I’d celebrate how cool that is if I weren’t still annoyed by the fact that DLC’s have really weeded their way into the gaming industry… I blame the Templars.
Apparently a letter was sent to GameStop employees, thanking them for accumulating so many AC3 pre-orders, but it also made mention of the season pass for October’s game. The developer has set up an entirely different team to handle the DLC’s, which is referred to as “post-launch episodic content”. This isn’t exactly a surprising thing for Ubisoft to do – the Assassin’s Creed franchise is pretty high up on the ‘DLC train’ itself. I just hope they never catch up to Capcom on what may well be described as a Ferrari.
It’s likely that the DLC’s will have multiplayer content, map packs, character skins and single player missions. Revelations (the previous game in the series) earned two multiplayer packs and a single-player mission earlier this year, but it didn’t have an entire team dedicated to it. Though this is all speculation, Ubisoft did say that their intent is to keep the “Game of the Year” experience going for as long as possible, (I bet it is) and they’ve even spoken about releasing many games beyond Assassin’s Creed 3 which was always meant to be the ‘finale’.
I know I’m not the only one hoping that Ubisoft don’t pull a Call of Duty on us and persistently make content that gets dry and repetitive. Either way, if you’re interested in the probable season pass, it’ll undoubtedly be available for pre-order within the next few months.
