Amazon Are Developing Games

Amazon have once again upped the stakes in the never-ending competition to “win at internets” and have decided to create online videogames, as opposed to simply selling them. The retailer announced earlier this morning that they’ve launched a new division to help it do so, along with their newest game.

Living Classics is a point and click ‘hidden object’ game, made solely for Facebook, by Amazon Game Studios. The game features references to popular books such as The Wizard of Oz and Alice in Wonderland. Amazon have said the game is the first of many, but didn’t specify a target platform beyond Facebook.

On the official website, they said: “Why is Amazon making social games, you ask? Good question! We know that many Amazon customers enjoy playing games – including free-to-play social games – and thanks to Amazon’s know-how, we believe we can deliver a great, accessible gaming experience that gamers and our customers can play any time.”

They’ve also set out to make Kindle Fire hardware more game-friendly with a new set of achievement-based features much like those on Apple’s Game Center. Amazon pretty much have everything you’ve ever wanted for cheaper than anywhere else, and adding a game studio to their name only proves that you really can win at the internet… If you’re a huge-as-hell retailer.
